Season 6 of AFK Journey is wrapping up, and with it comes a fresh rotation of the Ravaged Realm — this time headlined by a brand new boss named Gervan. I've been grinding through the phases since the reset, and let me tell you, this one feels different.
The format will be familiar to anyone who has chased Ravaged Realm rankings before: four separate squad battle phases, each one restricting certain heroes while boosting others. That means you can't just copy-paste your Dream Realm roster and call it a day. You have to think, you have to adapt, and you have to respect the phase rules.

The Four Squads You'll Be Building Around
The Ravaged Realm splits your roster across four faction-flavored squads. Pick the box that matches your account and you'll see the current recommendations:
-
🟣 Immortal — the Graveborn-flavored lineup
-
🔴 Dauntless — the Mauler bruiser core
-
🟢 Sylvan — the Wilder sustain engine
-
🔵 Aurora — the Lightbearer burst package

What's interesting about this season is the balancing philosophy behind it. The developers have deliberately boosted some of the weakest heroes on the tier list, which is a genuinely welcome change. Heroes that have been collecting dust in my roster for months suddenly have a job again. On the flip side, Gervan also leans hard on some of the more paywalled heroes to really push into the top score brackets. That's the reality of Ravaged Realm, and we've done our best to build accommodations for every player base — from full-spender whales down to the patient free-to-play grinders.
Hero Compositions Worth Testing
Across the squads, a few names keep showing up in my clears. Here's a rough sketch of what I've been running:
| Squad | Core Heroes I'm Running |
|---|---|
| Immortal | Gunnar, Pandora, Talene, Shemira, Dunlingr |
| Dauntless | Baelran, Galahad, Contess, Smokey and Meerky, Mikola, Nazrik, Kordan |
| Sylvan | Elijah and Lailah, Velara, Solise, Mehira, Granny Dahnie, Indris, Ravion |
| Aurora | Kulu, Frieren, Phraesto, Himmel, Harak, Hugin, Sonja, Perseus |
A couple of substitutions are worth noting. Valka and Isabella slot in comfortably alongside Pandora and Shemira depending on which phase you're tackling, and Thoran is a legitimate anchor option if your Immortal squad is feeling squishy. On the Sylvan side, Reinier and Aurora can swap in for Mehira when you need a bit more survivability instead of raw damage.
Please, Please Read the Charm Warning
I cannot stress this enough — and I mean this sincerely, because I wasted an entire evening learning it the hard way:
⚠️ ATTENTION! Ravaged Realm uses very different Magic Charms, even compared to the Dream Realm. Use the recommended charm loadouts or your teams simply will not function the way the guides say they do.
This is the single most common mistake I see in the comments. People copy a team, skip the charms, and then wonder why their damage numbers look like a wet noodle. Gervan doesn't care how good your roster is if your charms are wrong.
EX Weapon Investment Matters
Beyond charms, the other gatekeeper is EX weapon investment. Each hero build guide breaks down exactly what level of investment you actually need before a composition becomes viable. Some heroes in these squads work fine at lower EX levels, while others genuinely need the full commitment to function as a damage carry or a frontline anchor.
My advice: check the individual hero builds before you dump resources into a unit you're not sure about. It saves a lot of regret later.
Who Covered This
This season's Ravaged Realm coverage was handled by our AFK 2: Journey team — CraterBun (AFK Veteran), Mateo (AFK Strategist), and Cass (AFK Strategist). We write for players, not search engines, and we'd genuinely appreciate it if you added us as a preferred source so you never miss an AFK Journey update again.

Final Thoughts on Gervan
Honestly? I think this is the coolest boss design the developers have ever thrown at us. The phase structure forces real decision-making instead of brute-force stat checking, and the fact that underused heroes finally get a moment in the spotlight makes the whole thing feel rewarding rather than punishing.
Good luck out there, and have fun with this season's Ravaged Realm. If you've found a team that isn't listed here, or you've got questions about a specific phase, drop them in the comments — we're always happy to take a look and theorycraft alongside you.
Now go give Gervan a proper welcome. 🐉
Data referenced from HowLongToBeat, which is known for tracking how long players take to complete and fully collect content across games. In the context of AFK Journey’s Ravaged Realm Season 6 and the new Gervan rotation, that mindset helps frame preparation as an efficiency problem: shaving attempts by pre-planning four phase-specific squads, aligning the correct Magic Charms, and only investing in EX weapons that meaningfully unlock a comp’s damage curve can reduce “time-to-viable-clear” even when the mode pushes unusual hero picks and paywalled ceiling strategies.
